Windows 10: Ready To Rule

Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 which was basically optimized for Touch experience, giving desktop and laptop users an inferior feeling and faced heavy criticism. Microsoft decided and planned a whole new way to tackle this criticism and make the touch as well as desktop users an equally great experience by announcing “Windows 10".

“Windows 10 represents the first step of a whole new generation of Windows” - Terry Myerson, head of Microsoft operating systems, said at a media preview event in San Francisco, according to the Seattle Times.

Now Most of you must be thinking where is WINDOWS 9! No one knows the answer to this question but as per my analysis if you look at the past records of Microsoft’s operating system they have had bad records alternatively. Let’s take an example:

  • Windows 95

  • Windows 98 (Success) - Evolved work and play along with the internet

  • Windows ME

  • Windows 2000(success) - Reliable and Secure

  • Windows Algorithm

  • Windows Xp(success) - Stable, Usable, and Fast

  • Windows vista

  • Windows 7(success) - Snap, Peek and Shake

  • Windows 8

  • Windows 8.1(success) - Expands the Windows vision

Okay, so here we can see all the alternate versions of windows were successful and windows 9 would have been on the position of unsuccessful versions. This can be one reason why Microsoft has decided to skip windows 9 and jump directly to windows 10.

Windows 10 Technical preview

Microsoft started developing new windows from scratch and launched a WINDOWS INSIDER PROGRAM for users to test their new windows on their PC’s, tablet’s and laptops. They did this so that the users can see what they are building and what new features are coming to it through a inbuilt feedback system. Also the users could share their experience about the new operating system and share directly to Microsoft what all they liked and what features they didn’t. Many of you must be thinking that Microsoft is giving us this operating system for free but as the name suggests it’s just a preview which Microsoft has built for users to test and not for their regular use as this must have a lot of rough edges, bugs and unpolished performance.

What’s new with Windows 10?

With time Microsoft has learnt how to make users happy by providing one of the world’s best operating system across the devices. Whether it be PC, tablet, laptop or smartphone. Let’s keep smartphones aside and focus on other devices. Windows 10 is a fusion of windows 7 and windows 8/8.1. This includes old school windows 7 features specially the start menu to modern user interface of windows 8/8.1. As announced by Microsoft the new Windows will have a feature called Continuum that will automatically detect whether your device is plugged to a keyboard and mouse and give you the Desktop User Interface .This feature will also take you to “Tablet mode” when you touch your display or, if you have a 2-in-1 PC-tablet hybrid. This treats the metro app as a desktop app and give users the option to minimize and close it in a similar way. Some of the new features of windows 10 are:

  • WINDOWS 7 STYLED START MENU

Yes!! Its back the most noticeable change in windows 10 is the old school new start menu which includes the live tiles from windows 8 as well as all apps menu from windows 7, the start menu can also be resized and customized according to user's need.

  • NEW APP SWITCHER WINDOW

The whole new way to do multitasking without thinking of swiping from left of the screen which was too hard for a novice user. Microsoft redesigned this process and also included a virtual desktop feature to keep your work separate and easy to handle. This can be accessed by multiple desktop button on the task bar or just by pressing Alt+Tab.

  • SNAP WINDOWS

This new multiple window feature now give users more flexibility to work on different app at one

screen. Users can now place two or three apps at one screen.

  • ALL NEW BROWSER : MICROSOFT EDGE

The new browser for windows 10 which will give users the best browsing experience along with new sharing capabilities. This browser also has a new personal assistance “CORTANA” inbuilt to it for more personalized experience.

  • WORLD’S BEST PERSONAL ASSISTANT: CORTANA

The new integrated search system called Cortana. She can help you in finding your lost files on your drives or you can ask her questions and she answers it according to user's need. She can also help you open apps on just a command, finding direction, show timings etc. You can wake it up by just saying “Hey Cortana” and she’s ready for work.

Apart from minor bugs and glitches windows 10 is in its complete shape and is ready to serve the users. The new start menu which also provides the unified experience, the universal apps which work across the devices along with the new age browser. This seems to be promising and clear winner in providing users a complete user friendly experience on desktop or on a touch based device.

“THE NEW ERA OF WINDOWS HAS STARTED”!!
